DIY Sunburst Mirror

I really wanted a large scale mirror above my fireplace but everything I owned was just too small to match the scale of this house.  I searched the home stores and found several lovelies at ZGallerie but they were all too expensive for my budget.

My new DIY sunburst mirror

Here's how I made the mirror:

1) Find a round mirror with a wide frame.

I used and existing round mirror but you can find these pretty cheaply at thrift stores like Goodwill or Hobby Lobby (use your coupon!)

2) Prepare your heavy- duty cardboard

Cut 2 " x 12" cardboard stripd from moving boxes (I was drownding in boxes!)

3) Paint

Paint each strip with gold craft glue.  Spray painting would have been faster but I had lots of paint on hand

4)  Glue and attach

Hot glued each painted cardboard strip to the existing frame of the mirror

5) Hang your new mirror

Happy Decorating!
