DIY Sunburst Mirror

I really wanted a large scale mirror above my fireplace but everything I owned was just too small to match the scale of this house.  I searched the home stores and found several lovelies at ZGallerie but they were all too expensive for my budget.

My new DIY sunburst mirror

Here's how I made the mirror:

1) Find a round mirror with a wide frame.

I used and existing round mirror but you can find these pretty cheaply at thrift stores like Goodwill or Hobby Lobby (use your coupon!)

2) Prepare your heavy- duty cardboard

Cut 2 " x 12" cardboard stripd from moving boxes (I was drownding in boxes!)

3) Paint

Paint each strip with gold craft glue.  Spray painting would have been faster but I had lots of paint on hand

4)  Glue and attach

Hot glued each painted cardboard strip to the existing frame of the mirror

5) Hang your new mirror

A little about me....and yes, I am a fabric hoarder!

Welcome to my new blog!

I have been texting and emailing pictures of my projects to my friends and decided that this might be a better way to share.

I recently moved from Iowa to Texas and left a home that I had been decorating for 5 years.  We love our new home in Texas but I can't believe the former owners lived here with virtually no paint on the walls.  I love color so I have a lot of work to do.  Painting a house this size can be expensive so I will need to split up te projects over time.  My kids rooms will take priority.  They feel so cold with white walls.  Even with all of their colorful toys and bedding, it just doesn't fill the room like paint can.

If you have met me, you know that I am obsessed with fabric - especially home decorator fabrics and upholstery fabirc.  I am a self admitted fabric hoarder.  I tried to part with some of it before my move but most of it came with me.  Don't tell my hubby...I don't think he has opened those boxes yet.

I do own a sewing machine but found that I am a bit ADD when it comes to projects.  I need instant gratification so I opt for no-sew routes when I can find them--but ONLY if the look is still high-end.  I don't want my projects to look like a third-grader completed them.

My inspirations are:
 1) fabric  - patterns and texture
 2) http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/  -  Absolutely LOVE!
 3) a great deal on a decorative element
 4) retails stores like HomeGoods, TJMaxx, Ross,
 5) consignment shops with furniture and home decor

I hope you enjoy seeing my projects as I work on making this new house a home!
